Fostering the Humanities
at Keble
These are exciting times for the Humanities at Oxford and at Keble. The opening of the University’s Schwarzman Centre in 2024 will create a new dynamic hub for the Humanities in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, making Keble ideally located to benefit from the centre’s state-of-the-art academic, exhibition and performance spaces. The College is investing in the Humanities through the endowment of two Tutorial Fellowships, and through the support of events, such as the highly successful Poets at Keble series.

We are thrilled to announce that our 2023 Giving Day raised a fantastic £251,228 from 312 donors, against a target of £150,000 from 250 donors. This result is a wonderful testament to the commitment of the Keble community. Thank you so much for your support.

In Michaelmas Term of 2022, Keblites Christopher McHugh (2020 Jurisprudence) and Isobel Salzedo (2021 Jurisprudence) won the Oxford Herbert Smith Freehills Disability Mooting Championship, run by the Faculty of Law and Oxford University Disability Law and Policy Project.
In 7th week, the annual Keble Arts Festival took place. Combined with a JCR charities motion, the festival raised over £400 for Asylum Welcome, a local charity offering information, advice, and practical support to asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants living in Oxfordshire.
In late 2022, two Geography undergraduate students undertook pioneering climate change research in north-west Zambia, thanks in part to funding received through a Gordon Smith Award from the Keble Association (KA).
Michaelmas term racing kicked off at Nepthys regatta with Keble College Boat Club (KCBC) competing in a side-by-side knockout tournament against crews entered from the majority of Oxford colleges.

Victory was so close for both Keble’s women’s and men’s football teams in the inter-collegiate Cuppers football tournament this year. They played extraordinarily well in all their matches, only suffering defeat in the semi-final.
In January, the Oxford University Men’s Blues travelled to Zuoz in Switzerland to play in an outdoor tournament hosted by the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, winning every game and beating Cambridge 4-0 in the final.

My first ever pint in Oxford was during Freshers’ Week, at a pub not far from the College. We slipped out of the back gates, and walked along an atmospheric passage into a lively hostelry where the older history students seemed determined to buy us lots of beer.
