Five Years of
the H B Allen Centre
This autumn, we are delighted to celebrate five years of the H B Allen Centre at Keble. The site was officially opened by the Duke of Cambridge in October 2019, as the College entered its 150th year. Commenting on the visit, the then Warden, Sir Jonathan Phillips, said “The Centre signals a new chapter in our history, offering outstanding accommodation for our growing community of graduate students and providing state-of-the-art facilities to support research and spinout activities.”

We would like to welcome the following individuals, who joined the Fellowship in 2024-25. Our new Fellows come from a variety of disciplines, offering fresh expertise to our Keble community.
Thanks to generous gifts from alumni, the College has set up a new dedicated Sports Fund to encourage greater participation in physical activity and to ensure high quality sports provision.
Emmy Network Fellow by Special Election Joël Ouaknine has been awarded an ERC Synergy Grant for his innovative project ‘Dynamical and Arithmetical Model Checking’.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Bursar, Ivan Rockey. Ivan, currently Director of Finance & Resources at London’s Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, will be joining Keble in April 2025.
In acknowledgement of the contribution of Keble’s generous supporters, our major donors were recently invited to the Tower of London for an evening of music and history.

Student Life
Tackling the threat of antimicrobial resistance, Keble student Ryan Teo (2018 MChem, DPhil) is researching gut-friendly antibiotics that target the damaging bacteria in our bodies, while leaving friendly bacteria unharmed.
Recipients of the Care-Experienced Academic Futures and Black Academic Futures scholarships, Georgia Williams and Zainab Abdulai, discuss their experiences so far and their plans for the future.
Passionate about both science and music, Keble student Lucy Peer (2021 MChem Chemistry) channels her creativity as the singer-songwriter for up-and-coming band ‘Girl Like That’.
Keble Association grant recipient, Oliver Sworder (2021 MBiol Biology), shares his experiences on the month-long Tropical Biology Association (TBA) course in Uganda, including his encounter with ferocious safari ants.
Human Sciences student and Oxford Climate Society co-president Ushika Kidd sheds light on the inner workings of COP29 and what she learnt from attending this year’s UN climate conference.

Abi Stone (2000 BA DPhil Geography) talks about her recent work in the Namib desert unearthing 220,000 year-old evidence of a freshwater lake and the techniques that make this possible.

Welcoming back our 1970-79 cohort, Keble College hosted a weekend of events including a black-tie Gaudy, an exclusive lecture on AI, a 1970s display from the Keble Archive, and a 50th anniversary lunch for those who matriculated in 1974.
Presented by Master of Wine, alumna Caroline Gilby (1982 Botany), Douglas Price Society and Talbot Society members joined us for an evening of wines from Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia.
Honorary Fellow Paul Johnson (1985 PPE) to be Queen’s College Provost; Chelsea Walker (2007 English Language and Literature) directing Globe Theatre Production; The Saïd Business School’s ‘The Application’ podcast episodes featuring four of our alumni; Suzanna Fitzpatrick (1994 English) and Barney Norris (2006 English) poetry readings at the Creation Theatre.
