Two New Honorary Fellows

We are pleased to share that the College has elected the following two individuals to Honorary Fellowship. 

Sue Carr

Sue Carr, Baroness Carr of Walton‑on‑the‑Hill, is the first female Chief Justice of England and Wales, appointed on 1 October 2023. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, she was called to the Bar in 1987, became Queen’s Counsel in 2003, and built a top-tier commercial law practice. She joined the High Court in 2013, becoming the first woman in the Technology and Construction Court, advanced to the Court of Appeal in 2020, and subsequently served as Vice‑Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission. Lady Chief Justice Carr delivered the Keble Harris Society Annual Lecture in 2023.

Alan Petty

Alan Petty (1972 Philosophy and Theology), also known by his pen name, Alan Judd, joined the Foreign Office on graduation while writing novels part-time. He later retired early to write full-time, producing 17 novels and two major biographies, the award-winning Ford Madox Ford (1990) and The Quest for C: Mansfield Cumming and the Founding of the Secret Service (1999). Three of his novels have been filmed, half are spy novels, The Devil's Own Work won the Guardian Fiction Award and A Breed of Heroes the Winifred Holtby Award. He has reviewed widely and has been a columnist for the Telegraph, Spectator and Oldie. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
