Netball in Switzerland with Lyndsay Lomax

Lyndsay Lomax (2001 Theology) was inspired to take up Netball again in 2019 as a way of increasing her social circle after moving to Switzerland. This tapped into and revived a competitive streak developed while playing at Keble as an undergraduate.

The Covid-19 lockdown provided the thinking time she needed to realise her goal of making the national netball squad and, in the ensuing months, she began to improve her fitness and diet with this goal always in her mind.

The hard work paid off, when Lyndsay was both surprised and delighted to find out that she had been selected to play for the Swiss national team for the Europe Netball competition in Cardiff in May 2023. The four days of competition saw them playing five matches against Gibraltar, France and Israel.

These efforts have yielded great results. Switzerland recently gained a world ranking position, and their ambition doesn’t stop there: they aim to gain more points and continue climbing the rankings. This success is particularly important since playing netball in Switzerland, especially as a young person, can be challenging, with many schools not having the facilities to accommodate the sport.

We wish Lyndsay and her squad every success in their future competitions.
