Alumni Golf

David Grimshaw (1981 Physiological Sciences) writes:

Historically, there has been an annual Oxford intercollegiate golfing event at Frilford Heath Golf Club, but unfortunately this has not restarted since the last event was cancelled due to Covid-19.

However, the good news is that Keble held its own stand-alone golf day last October at Huntercombe Golf Club, with 18 holes of golf in this lovely venue being followed by a meal. It seemed to be very much enjoyed by those who attended, and congratulations to Jim Cadwallader (1970) for winning this event.

In 2022, Keble was invited to play in a joint Cambridge/Oxford event organised by Fitzwilliam Golf Society and being held at Berkhamsted Golf Club. This was both extremely well-organised and thoroughly enjoyable, with Andrew Wingfield-Digby (1971), John Saner (1969) and Justin Snoxall (1980) joining myself in representing Keble. We received an invitation again this year, with John and Justin again able to play on behalf of the college. There were more than 25 colleges participating, with pretty much an equal representation from both universities. Oxford was a convincing winner in the overall competition with Keble performing strongly.

In terms of any future events, we have already received notification that the next Cambridge-Oxford match organised by Fitzwilliam will be held at Berkhamsted on 26 June 2024. I am also in the early stages of arranging a friendly match with Wadham (and possibly one or two other Oxford colleges), likely to be held at Huntercombe some time in 2024. I also plan to arrange another Keble golf day in due course.

If you are not already on the mailing list but would like to be added, then please email me on keblegolf@outlook.com and I will happily add. Golfers of all abilities are extremely welcome. Any suggestions about the future of the group are also always appreciated.
