A Decade of Men’s Health and Moustachery | Fraser MacDonald-Lister
It’s unusual to say ‘I’ve retired!’ at 27. For Fraser MacDonald-Lister (2016 Human Sciences), friends and family often mistook his volunteering for Movember as a full-time job. After 10 years with the men’s health charity, he’s hanging up his razor for good.
Movember’s mission is to unite experts and volunteers all over the world to tackle the crisis of men’s health, focusing on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. They aim to fundamentally change the way the way that men in need are treated and supported.
Fraser’s journey with Movember began in 2016 at Keble, where he became a student ambassador. He has spoken openly on podcasts such as Inside a Mind and Death: A Funny Business about his struggles with bereavement at school and consequent depression while at Oxford. Fraser said:
“I joined Oxford with a recent diagnosis of depression, which quickly grew worse under the academic and social pressures of university life. Volunteering for Movember in my second and third years, with the support of the Keble community, helped me to take better care of myself and those around me. I’m grateful to the college and my peers for their help in that difficult time.”
After graduating and moving to London, Fraser became a community ambassador for the city and a workplace ambassador at Deloitte. It wasn’t long before he launched Mo Rugby FC and, in November 2025, he held his tenth and final fundraiser. With the support of friends and strangers alike, he’s raised a lot of money for men’s health:
£20,000+ individually since 2016
£40,000+ at Oxford from 2016-2019
£80,000+ at Mo Rugby from 2021-2025
£275,000+ at Deloitte from 2019-2025
…but Movember is about more than just the money. Fraser has engaged hundreds of students, professionals, and rugby players in the movement for men’s health. He has encouraged men to reach out for support when they need it, and taught them how to spot the signs in a ‘bro who’s feeling low’.
“I’m enjoying some newfound headspace after stepping back. With good reason, I’ve obsessed over this brilliant charity and its namesake rugby club, and I’m excited to focus my energy somewhere new – maybe even just on myself!”
Movember remains an annual tradition at Oxford, with students from across the University growing moustaches, moving their bodies, and hosting events to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. In 2025, Oxford students raised £36,290 for the charity, with Queen’s, Teddy Hall, and Magdalen leading the way. Perhaps the Keble community can regain the top spot this year!
