College News in Brief...

35 Years at Keble

This term, we celebrated 35 years of our Gardens and Grounds Manager, Adrian “Ade” Roche, working here at Keble College. Having joined on 5 March in 1990, he has been an invaluable member for both our grounds and community with his hard work and warm-hearted nature. Our congratulations to Ade for reaching this milestone.

Chancellor’s Lunch

We had the honour of hosting Lord Hague’s Admission lunch here at Keble College on 19 February. He was officially admitted as Oxford’s 160th Chancellor in a ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre, followed by a three-course fine-dining menu in Keble Hall.

Crisp Hollamby Lecture Theatre

On 31 January, the College welcomed 1870 Fellow Peter Hollamby and guests to commemorate the naming of the Crisp Hollamby Lecture Theatre at The H B Allen Centre, and to celebrate the life of Clement Crisp OBE (1949 French). Clement, who was the dance critic for the Financial Times, was forever grateful to the College for the education he received and, upon his death, Peter, Clement’s long-term partner, made a generous unrestricted gift to the College, naming the theatre in his memory.

H G Wells Additions

Complementary to a series of First Edition H G Wells books previously donated to the College by Geography Professorial Fellow Dame Sarah Whatmore, an additional five books have been donated to Keble College Library on behalf of her and her family. These books consist of Wells’ most famous and valuable: The Time Machine (1895), The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), The War of the Worlds (1898), and The First Men in the Moon (1901).
