The Library has just received a donation of first editions and other early copies of the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Most famous as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, he was a prolific writer of other novels and non-fiction, reflecting his varied interests including sport, war, medicine, and spiritualism. The collection is the gift of Chris Whatmore, brother of Professor Dame Sarah Whatmore, and will sit alongside her donation of books by H G Wells that we received earlier in the year. Both collections were assembled by their father, Colonel Denys Edwin Whatmore
