Oxford Robotics Institute Presented With Queen’s Anniversary Prize

The Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI), founded by Keble Professorial Fellow Paul Newman and housed at Keble’s H B Allen Centre, has received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize — the highest national honour in UK further and higher education. Professor Newman, along with Oxford Chancellor Lord Patten and Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey, were presented with the prestigious award by Her Majesty The Queen at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace in February. NIHR Research Professorship

Keble Fellow by Special Election, Professor Daniela Ferreira, Professor of Mucosal Immunity and Infection at the Oxford Vaccine Group, Oxford University Department of Paediatrics, has been awarded the prestigious NIHR Research Professorship for her ‘substantial role in the UK’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, including the leadership of the Liverpool’s STOP COVID response and the NIHR NWC Vaccine Alliance Liverpool.’

Ten-Minute Book Club Shortlisted for VC award

The Ten-Minute Book Club, an initiative led by Keble’s Dr Alexandra Paddock and Professor Kirsten Shepherd-Barr, has been shortlisted for a Vice-Chancellor's Award in the Community Partnership category, which recognises colleagues who have partnered with others to make a positive difference locally, nationally or globally. Angela Saini at the Oxford Literary Festival

Honorary Fellow Angela Saini (1999 MEng Engineering Science) was back in Oxford as part of the Literary Festival earlier this month.

The event, at the Weston Lecture Theatre, was an opportunity to hear Angela discuss her successful book The Patriarchs: How Men Came to Rule, on how male domination became embedded in society and spread across the globe from prehistory until today.

The Patriarchs was a finalist for the Orwell Prize.

Nabila Photo Prize Winner

Michaelmas saw the launch of the second Nabila Walji Photography Prize, a prize established in memory of Keble MSc student in Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology, Nabila Walji, who was a writer, photographer, epistemophile and anthropologist. The Michaelmas/Hilary Term Nabila Prize was won by Roy Lo (2023 EMBA) for an image that was described by the Walji family as depicting "a sense of nature’s fragility and resiliency, highlighting a tender moment of beauty in bloom."

Farewell to Rachel Slater, former College Nurse

We are sorry to share the news that former College Nurse, Rachel Slater, died on 5 February in Sobell House Hospice. Rachel served as College Nurse between 2021 and 2023, offering outstanding medical and personal support to students at Keble and Somerville Colleges. She is remembered as kind, compassionate, with a great sense of humour and common sense. We will miss her enormously.
